"[My daughter] Augusta and her friend Lucy enter the scene; they are like two
troubadours from old France ...Manet's [painting] Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe
came to mind. His idea of the nude female with clothed men was borrowed
from
Fȇte Champȇtre by Giorgione, who borrowed the composition from
Mercantonio Raimondi's engraving
The Judgement of Paris. I wanted to
see in this painting how it would look at this Kiwi party if the young women
were fully dressed, having the profound conversation, and the young men naked."
