23/04/2013, Shannon Novak - "A Garden for Orpheus" at George Fraser Gallery.

“Today we reveal the reality that is behind visible things, thus expressing the belief that the visible world is merely an isolated case in relation to the universe and that there are many more other, latent realities”.

Paul Klee in his “Creative Credo”, 1920.

Throughout his career Klee used colour and abstract forms to reveal the reality behind physical objects such as plants, animals, and buildings often in terms of the musicality of these objects. In Northern Room (1932) for example, the musicality of a particular room is revealed through multiple layers of colour and abstract form, each layer a musical instrument that together created what Klee called ‘polyphony’. Similarly, A Garden for Orpheus will use colour and abstract forms to reveal the musicality behind objects within the George Fraser Gallery as experienced by Novak through synesthesia.
