Reflections on Lily Pond' presents a selection of reprinted photographs from Emil McAvoy's mother
Susan Sayer's personal archive, alongside a new video work. Upon receiving her PhD, Susan playfully referred to herself as 'Dr Lily Pond'.
Susan was diagnosed with early onset dementia in 2010. People with dementia are often given increased exposure to family photographs to aid their declining memory. McAvoy's portrait of Susan explores the entanglement of fact and fiction in the mind, in a meditation on photography and forgetting.
